Dive into art history, capitalism, spirituality, technology and creative practice as we talk about what it is, and how it is, to be alive on the edge of the present. 1-800-POWERS is recorded and produced by Lex Brown with original animations by Nora Rodriguez.

1-800-POWERS is available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

Lex Brown is a multimedia artist who uses poetry and science-fiction to create an index for our psychological experiences as organic beings in a rapidly technologized world. Through humorous characters and expansive fictional worlds, her work opens up a place for spiritual examination.

Brown has performed and exhibited work at the New Museum, the High Line, the International Center of Photography, Recess, and The Kitchen, REDCAT Theater, The Baltimore Museum of Art and at the Munch Museum in Oslo, Norway. Brown holds degrees from Princeton University and Yale University. She was a 2021 recipient of the prestigious USA Fellowship and is the author of My Wet Hot Drone Summer (Badlands Unlimited) and Consciousness (GenderFail Press).

Nora Rodriguez is a media artist and educator originally from San Francisco. After a decade as a classroom teacher and museum educator, she received her graduate training in children’s media. Education––its aesthetics, traditions, institutions, and tools––deeply informs her practice.

Nora's work has screened at REDCAT in LA, the Block Cinema in Chicago, Pioneer Works, The Filmmaker's Coop, Anthology Film Archives, La Mama, and BRIC in New York, among other venues. Nora currently oversees digital media at MoMA PS1. She loves weird sounds.
